Why we exist
About Global India Medical Assistance Health
Global India Medical Assistance Health didn't start as a business plan. It started with one person, alone in a foreign hospital, wishing someone was there to help.
In 2012, I flew to Europe for treatment I couldn't get clear answers about at home. I didn't know a single person there. I remember sitting in a hospital waiting room, jet-lagged and frightened, doing currency conversion in my head every time someone mentioned a number. By the time it was over — consultations, tests, the procedure itself, then the recovery — I had spent years of savings. Years. And the hardest part wasn't even the money. It was the loneliness of it: no family nearby, no one to explain what a doctor had just said in a hurry, no one to simply sit with me.
I come from a family of doctors. I grew up understanding, better than most people in that waiting room, the difference between a hospital that's actually good and one that's simply expensive. So the bill wasn't confusing to me — it was infuriating. I knew, precisely, how much of what I'd paid had nothing to do with the quality of my care.
"We've built a world with so much — and somewhere along the way, we started treating access to good health like a privilege instead of a right."
That trip changed how I saw the world. Where I come from, a good doctor isn't just a professional — they're treated like they've given you a second chance at life. And sometimes, that's genuinely all a person needs: someone who gives them that chance, and treats them like family while doing it.
My parents raised me on one idea more than any other: Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam — the world is one family. Whatever you have, you give to your family, and you don't keep score. I couldn't shake the feeling that I'd been handed the exact tools to actually do something with that idea — the medical knowledge in my own family, and the very personal experience of being the frightened patient far from home.
For years, that "something" was informal. A cousin's father needed a heart valve replaced and didn't know where to start — I made the calls. A family friend's daughter needed fertility treatment and was quoted a number that made no sense — I found her a second opinion and the right hospital. One person at a time, using whatever I knew and whoever I could call.
Global India Medical Assistance Health is that decade of quiet, personal favours, finally given a proper name and a system to match it. It exists so that no one has to sit alone in a waiting room in a country they don't know, doing currency math in their head, wondering if they're being charged fairly. We handle the hospital, the doctor, the visa, the flights, the recovery — so your family gets to just be your family, not your travel agent, translator, and accountant all at once.
If, at the end of all this, one more family gets to go home well and smiling — that's enough for me. It always was.
